Influences Latines :
Part repertoire, part creation, a voyage to the world of Argentinian tango. The encounter between the accordion player Pascal Contet and the Travelling Quartet is a little gem. In this creation they interpret the mutual enrichment of repertoires from both sides of the Atlantic, carried by the accordion as if on the wings of a messenger pigeon. At the beginning of the twentieth century many Argentinians settled in Europe. The accordion and exotic dances were already part of the social scene and had revolutionized parties, balls and other festivities. There was just one step from Argentinian tango or French “musette” to the simpler and popular musette tango. The Parisian tango became fashionable and numerous composers, consciously or not, fell under its influence. In echo with this history, the team of Influences Latines asked young Argentinian composers living in France to write new arrangements of old tangos and to compose contemporary miniatures so as to create a link between tradition and modernity. The result is wonderful, and an irresistible urge to dance! Hélène Cancel, Director, Bateau-Feu in Dunkerque
A word from Pascal Contet :
“Tango revisited by young Argentians at ease with their culture”.
“Wonderful scores from Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela arranged by composers Tomas Bordalego (arranger of Juliette amongst others), Fernando Fiszbein (composer and arranger for Agnès Jaoui, musical author for Au bout du Conte), and Christophe Julien (musical author for the film 9 Mois Ferme, the series Kaboul Kitchen, arranger for Josiane Balasko).”
“The beauty of the sound will provoke tears, and the wild Brazilian melodies will make people groove”.
“No videos, no amplification (perhaps some support depending on the acoustics of the room). I want to get back to the simplicity of the concert but with the added value brought by Xavier Lazarini (collaboration with the choreograph Joseph Nadj, the designer Courrèges and Avignon festival for Les Inepties volantes in 2009)”.
