A young and charismatic violinist with a passionate bow and an intense poetry, Elsa Grether was born in Mulhouse, in eastern France, and obtained a unanimous first prize of violin at the Conservatoire Régional de Paris on her 15th birthday. Driven by a great curiosity, she pursued her studies abroad, at the Mozarteum of Salzburg with Ruggiero Ricci, then in the United States with Mauricio Fuks at the University of Indiana at Bloomington and Donald Weilerstein at the New England Conservatory of Boston. She also benefits from the advice of Régis Pasquier in Paris.
Winner of the 2009 Pro Musicis International Price at the unanimity of the jury with the pianist Delphine Bardin, she made her debuts in 2012 with a recital at the Carnegie Weill Hall of New-York, and then in Boston. In solist and with orchestras, she performed many concertos (Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Bruch, Brahms, Tchaïkovski, Chébaline, Dvorak, Prokofiev, Saint-Saëns, Ravel…).
Her first disc, Poème mystique, recorded with pianist Ferenc Vizi, was released in march 2013 at Fuga Libera / Harmonia Mundi, and was warmly received by the press and the public, receiving the best awards of the specialized magazines : 5 ‘diapasons’, 4 stars from the magazine Classica, as well as elogious critics in the magazine Gramophone and La Libre Belgique.

Her second CD, French Resonance, with musics from Pierné, Vierne and Fauré and recorded with pianist François Dumont, was released by Fuga Libera / Outhere Music on november 3 2015. It was well received by the critic and also got 5 ‘diapasons’ and 4 stars from the magazine Classica.
She has been heard in prestigious festivals and concerts venues in France and abroad : Carnegie Weill Hall of New-York, Printemps des Arts of Monte-Carlo, Festival of Menton, Bozar and Salle Flagey in Brussel, Salle Cortot in Paris, Festival Musica in Strasbourg, Festival des Forêts, Festival Lille Clef de Soleil, Palazzetto Bru-Zane in Venice, Radio Suisse-Romande in Geneva, Festival Cully Classique (Switzerland), Flâneries musicales de Reims, Festival des Abbayes en Lorraine, Chicago Myra Hess Concert Series, Mozarteum of Salzburg…
She is the recipient of different foundation prizes : Safran pour la Musique, Natixis-Banque Populaire, Prix Oulmont (Fondation de France), Cziffra, Fondation Bleustein-Blanchet pour la Vocation, Fondation Alliance, AJAM.
She was the subject of a tv talk show by Alain Duault and she is regularly invited at different radios.
She has made concerts with pianists David Lively, François Dumont, Marie Vermeulin, Ferenc Vizi, Johan Schmidt, Delphine Bardin, as well as Jérémy Jouve (guitar), Régis Pasquier (violin), Ronald van Spaendonck (clarinet), Sébastien van Kuijk (cello)…
